I had a fantastic time at the Royal Welsh Show, where the sense of community was truly palpable.
Among the many highlights, I particularly enjoyed the insightful National Trust session on ‘Farming for the Futures’ and the engaging Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales session led by Nick Thomas, which highlighted the impactful outcomes delivered with EU LIFE funding. These discussions not only reflected on past achievements but also looked ahead, setting goals and aspirations for the future.
A profound realisation for me was hearing directly from farmers themselves. Farming is not merely a livelihood for them; it is their way of life.
Their deep connection to the land, spanning generations often, highlights the integral role it plays in shaping their existence. Any impact on the land reverberates through every aspect of their lives.
We as consumers are also entwined in the layers of discussions from our buying habits and preferences; we can not deny, everything we eat, at some point, in some form, started on a farm.
As a generation as we face challenges posed by climate change and the biodiversity crises, it is crucial for us to stand united, ensuring no one is left behind.
Our collective focus should be on safeguarding our environment and heritage, preserving what we hold dear, whilst restoring and reintroducing what we have lost.
