*Dr Sustainability’s Recommended Read*
Hot off the press (…well fairly hot) is my Recommended Read: ‘How to be a Chief Sustainability Officer’, released in June 2024…you now see why I say it is ‘hot’ to ‘fairly hot’ off the press!!
This book is authored by Anna Krotova and Jennifer Geary who have individually and collectively made their mark in a range of sectors and vocal in the area of sustainability leadership. The publication is available in paperback and Kindle, a more sustainable medium.
The Chief Sustainability Officer’s (CSO) role within an organisation can be viewed to be at its infancy compared to more established roles such as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
A Chief Sustainability Officer is expected to lead the transition to a sustainable organisation long-term. Being quite frank about it….there’s bloody a lot of work to do!
The Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) has become a crucial member of the leadership team in an organisation.
Given the infancy and the wide breath of work to undertake, it can be quite a daunting place to start and keep momentum.
This is exactly why this book is a great place to begin and continue the journey. It is easy to follow and practical to support someone working through the sustainability implementation process.
The publication outlines how an organisation integrates sustainability to a strategic focus, the importance of the Chief Sustainability Officer and how an experienced individual can fill the boots of a fairly new role and build a sustainability roadmap.
The book is comprehensive (…it is a 342 pages) in nature, well-structured and jam backed with guidelines, standards, toolkits, policies, even a 90-day checklist and roadmaps to support the process.
The book grounds itself through citations to a range of academics, experts from the field and strategist to offer well-rounded solutions.
This is an essential read for anyone in a leadership position in sustainability or looking to take the leap.
Happy Reading Folks!
