*Dr Sustainability’s Recommended Read*

My Recommended Read is ‘Do Purpose: Why brands with a purpose do better and matter more’, authored by David Hieatt. The publication, released June 2024 is available in Paperback and Kindle format. The publication is oriented around how to build a purpose driven business.

The reality is, often brands that do well make us feel something. This isn’t the actual product/service they provide but what they make us feel.

These organisations are purpose driven and wants to change something. This can be linked to the founders motivation, wanting to bring about change to people/place(s) and/or the idea of doing something they love in the process.

These organisations stand over pure profit making organisations, they have a deep level of purpose. This opens up the conversation of social enterprises.

David within the ‘Do Purpose’ publication shares insight into how one could/should build purpose driven business.

Book Highlights:

Tell your story

Build your team

Define your culture

Fight the impossible

David, has been viewed as a marketing genius. He built howies into one of the most influential active sports brands in recent years. After selling it to Timberland, he co-founded The DO Lectures, voted one of the top ten ideas festivals in the world by The Guardian.

He started Hiut Denim Co in his hometown of Cardigan, Wales (…side note, Wales also a place I see as home) a town that used to have Britain’s biggest jeans factory.

David Hieatt, you don’t know me or what I’m about to share….I have a confession! I have been stalking you (…very innocently, if the officials ask),…technically ‘following’ your work (…that sounds softer) for a number years and can firmly say I’m in awe of what you have acheived and how you have remained grounded through the process.

Back to the book….the book is an informative short snappy focused meaningful book. It captures a new way to rethink success of a business.

Overall, I recommend the book for those starting out and establishing a purpose driven brand aswell as those reshaping an existing organisation.
