Yesterday I had the honour with my community to celebrate 50 years of independence for my motherland Bangladesh. I take great pride in my origin and everything it has offered me. Bangladesh is a country 50 years ago that embarked on a struggle to retain a nation’s language, culture and to be independently recognised by the world. A struggle many of our parents, families, forefathers and foremothers fought for.
For a small yet heavily populated country, even in its struggles, on today’s platform Bangladesh has greatly contributed to society. This includes manufacturing and distributing a large proportion of the world’s clothing and textiles, your local restaurants and food outlets, leaders and key contributors to UK society (and beyond) and the humanitarian efforts currently being made with the Rohingya refugee crisis.
