Spent a session yesterday with the Club Asia Radio team listening to callers, contributing to discussions and being interviewed on the impact of climate change following recent flash floods in Pakistan.
Club Asia Radio station operates nationally at the heart of the Pakistani and overall South Asian community. The sheer devastation of the floods could be felt from callers and the stories of loved ones impacted in Pakistan. It is just heartbreaking, behind each headline number is a person and a tragedy.
The session reminded me how countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh (my motherland) have been hit recently with some of the worst flash floods in history. These countries have felt the brunt of climate change but compared to many western countries have least contributed to climate change.
Though there are charities such as Penny Appeal already on the ground in Pakistan proactively offering support, the scale of the devastation simply outstrips the pace of humanitarian relief efforts being made by charities, organisations and governments.
We must remember after the news teams leave and world’s attention passes the struggle of people impacted still continues.
