For anyone that has missed it in the news the last few days….we are behind on our 1.5°C goal around the world!
The Economist sums it up well “To accept that the world’s average temperature might rise by more than 1.5°C, declared the foreign minister of the Marshall Islands in 2015, would be to sign the “death warrant” of small, low-lying countries such as his.To widespread surprise, the grandees who met in Paris that year, at a climate conference…enshrined the goal of limiting global warming to about 1.5°C in the Paris agreement, which sought to co-ordinate national efforts to curb emissions of greenhouse gases.”
It is disappointing to say the least in 2022 to hear and read how behind we are as generation are in respect of the 1.5°C goal around the world. However, it is important not to lose sight, let’s remember what is at stake, let’s keep the end goal in mind as we reflect, energise, restrategise and move forward.
