Sustainable Public Procurement, more notably Low Carbon Public Procurement will be taking front of stage this Friday for COP27 as a lever to combat climate change. As a practitioner and academic in the area it is quite exciting and fills me with pride to witness.
Why is it important to implement Low Carbon in Public Procurement?
1. Public procurement accounts for 8%-25% GDP of a country
2. Public sector is the biggest buyer in most countries
3. Public procurement provides an effective policy lever to implement change into supply chains including the reduction of carbon emissions.
The session this Friday will highlight best practices, current trends, lessons learnt and challenges faced by countries during the implementation process.
