This article outlines the exodus of Gen X women leaders is setback for the decades-long effort to diversify corporate America’s top ranks, and also internationally.
Mckinsey in Oct 2022 report outlined how for every woman at senior level that get promoted, two leave. Departure threatens and shrinks the talent pool of future women in executive positions.
To think, at a time where we need more diversity in the workplace, especially women at Board/C-suite/Executive level, it is concerning to read such articles.
By no means do I blame women for walking out. At times, the culture is not inclusive or supportive of women.
Recently, shared a story of an incident at a executive meeting. She witnessed a woman in an Exec board meeting getting openly ‘ripped into shreds’. She later took this woman aside in the washroom to check if she was okay. Inherently, conversations had in such situations do lead to questions such as: if she was a man in the same meeting, would that have occurred?
For women entering at exec level please try to hand in there as much as you, we are rooting for you. For all recruiting and working at executive level please remember the qualities and skills women can bring to the workplace at that level.
