On my train to London for meetings focused around Scope 3 emissions…
– Procurement and supply chain activity sits within within what we refer to as ‘Scope 3’ (indirect) emissions.
– Effective management of supply chains is a golden lever to reduce carbon emissions.
– An organisation’s Scope 3 emissions can account for/be up to 80% of their overall emissions!
– Consulting practice Deloittes recently reported only 15% of organisations report their Scope 3 emissions.
– Tackling Scope 3 emissions offers long-term efficiency, cost savings and organisational resilience!
– But why isn’t Scope 3 getting reported and tackles enough?
– My suggestion would be that Scope 3 is complex (…no easy picking here), outside an organisation’s boundaries. Often these relationships/levers to pull are fragmented, spanning companies, countries, continents and boundaries of influence.
– Yet, tackling Scope 3 emission provides a golden ticket to acheived effective decarbonisation, or dare I say it…Net Zero amibitions!
– The easy road isn’t always the right road…go work on your organistion’s Scope 3 emissions…calculate, map, evaluate, execute, reduce, report (and repeat).
