*Danger Alert*
One of the most dangerous phrases in the English language in the face of sustainability and the fight against climate change.
I’ve heard this phrase way too often. This phrase is common place in procurement, supply chains and change management. Too often slipped of the tongue, casually said, many times put forward as an indirect means of resistance.
Because we have always done it this way isn’t because it was/is right, nor is it because it should have been done that way. They are our past actions and behaviours…in the past we have all made mistakes, misjudged, perhaps didn’t quite understand the severity of our actions.
The journey we are taking to sustainability is inherently linked to the fact we as a society are on an unsustainable path (due to our past and current actions and behaviours) unless we change. If we wish to see change we have to implement change.
If we want the a cleaner, greener, fairer, sustainable future we cannot continue to do things how they have always been done. We need to be adaptive, innovative, pragmatic and dynamic today to achieve the world we want tomorrow.
