*UK Net Zero Business Census 2024 Released*
Today the UK Net Zero Business Census 2024 report has been released through a partnership between UK Business Climate Hub and Planet Mark.
The Census covers 2000+ UK organisations, various shapes and sizes; findings of which have been tightly summarised within a 63-page report.
As the largest ever UK industry study, it finds 73% of organisations are prioritising Net Zero, but over half face barriers.
The Census Highlights…
Net Zero is a strategic priority with 73% of respondents noted Net Zero is a medium to high priority for their business strategy in the coming 12 months.
Requirements to measure/report carbon data are cascading through supply chains. 46% of respondents reported receiving customer or tender applications that required carbon footprint data in the last 12 months.
Carbon reduction plans are working. 57% of respondents have developed a plan to reduce carbon emissions, whilst 39% report having already achieved measurable reductions.
65% of respondents have set Net Zero 2050 targets, this falls in-line with the SBTi targets.
Ambitious Net Zero targets are being set within the next decade. 48% of respondents have set Net Zero target dates before 2035, with 28% intending to achieve net zero before 2030. Setting Net Zero targets earlier than SBTi 2050 and working towards this will enable us to avoid disaster, keeping with planetary boundaries.
Organisations are increasingly measuring their emissions. 52% of organisations report measuring at least a partial baseline carbon footprint, while 29%, plan to do so within the next 12 months.
